“Luxury that feels like home”; that’s the mantra of Kimberly Bowers and Dave Berman as they built the company that would grow into one of the most prominent and well-regarded home builders in Indiana. The custom work of Sigma Builders can be found along Geist, in Meridian Hills, alongside the luxury amenities of Chatham Hills, and just a few miles from the bricks of Zionsville in Promontory and Holliday Farms. All of these are coveted addresses, and Sigma’s name is becoming synonymous with quality in Central Indiana.
New to the growing list of Sigma neighborhoods is Bradley Ridge, a new section of the Holliday Farms development that embraces the landscape around it. The 350-acre plot from Henke Development is self-described as a “nature-first” community; with Eagle Creek running through the property, the development promises to embrace this vision through orchards, a fishing doc, and a shared picnic area for residents.
Bowers came from a background in technology and operations, where she learned the importance of strong
systems, clear processes, and great people. These pillars are fundamental to her work at Sigma, where she’s always focused on raising the bar for trade partners, clients, and team members.
“For me, success isn’t measured solely by the number of homes we build,” said Bowers. “It’s about developing great leaders within our organization, strengthening our partnerships, and continuing to improve the experience we provide our homeowners.”
Looking to the Future
For Bowers and the Sigma team, a major goal for the future lies in mentorship, workforce development and building pathways to the trades. The US is experiencing a major deficit of talent in the construction industry, and
Indiana is no exception to that statistic. But Bowers believes their company has some stake in the future of the industry, and the right tools to help.
“I believe companies like ours have a responsibility to help strengthen the future of the industry, not just participate in it.”
Beyond her mentorship within Sigma, Bowers is involved with IBA, BAGI, and Women Build It, organizations that help her and her team explore pathways to better workforce development. Of course, there’s something to be said for leading by example.
“Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for someone is simply help them see what’s possible. That’s one of the reasons I’m passionate about creating more opportunities for women to connect, learn from one another, and see successful women in a variety of leadership roles throughout the industry,” said Bowers. “When people feel supported and believe they belong, they’re much more likely to take the next step in their careers.”
While creating opportunities is an important piece of the
puzzle for Sigma Builders, they’re also committed to opening the door for everyone, regardless of gender. Bowers believes that the construction industry serves everyone, so it’s valuable when the people helping design, build, and lead within that industry reflect a variety of perspectives.
“Ultimately, the goal isn’t representation for the sake of representation. It’s building the strongest possible team, and that comes from creating an environment where talented people can succeed.”
Meanwhile, Sigma has their eyes on several projects currently in development, including upcoming opportunities like Bradley Ridge, some unique pre-existing tear down/rebuilds, and even a few purposeful commercial projects.
