If you’ve never attended a Women Build It event, you might wonder what it’s all about. Is it a women-only club? Is it about women versus men? Is it focused on empowerment at the expense of collaboration? The answer is simple: absolutely not.
Women Build It was never created to exclude anyone, diminish anyone, or create division within the construction, design, architecture, and trades industries. It was created to build something many women were looking for: community.
When Women Build It launched in 2023, the goal wasn’t to create a movement against anyone. The goal was to create a space where women working across the built environment could come together, learn from one another, share experiences, and build meaningful professional relationships. Women make up a growing and important part of these industries. Yet many women still find themselves as one of only a few women on a team, at a jobsite, in a meeting, or in a leadership role. Women Build It provides an opportunity to connect with others who understand those experiences. That’s not about exclusion. That’s about connection.
The reality is that construction projects aren’t completed by one person, and neither are successful businesses. The design and construction industries succeed because of collaboration. Builders, designers, architects, tradespeople, suppliers, sales professionals, marketers, project managers, and business leaders all play important roles. Men and women work together every day to create great projects, build strong companies, and serve clients.
Women Build It recognizes that reality. In fact, many of the companies that support Women Build It are owned, led, or co-led by men who understand the value of investing in their female team members and helping them grow professionally. The event isn’t about separating women from the industry. It’s about helping women become even stronger contributors within it.
One of the biggest benefits attendees mention after every Women Build It event is networking. The opportunity to meet new people, find mentors, build referral relationships, and learn from others is often what brings women back year after year. Creating a space for women to connect doesn’t take anything away from anyone else. It simply creates opportunities that may not otherwise happen.
Many attendees leave with new professional connections, mentors, referral partners, career opportunities, friendships, and increased confidence. These relationships don’t just benefit individuals—they help strengthen the industry as a whole.
The conversations that happen at Women Build It aren’t centered around what women can’t do. They’re focused on what women can learn, contribute, and achieve. Conference sessions focus on leadership, communication, sales and client relationships, technology and AI, workplace dynamics, professional development, business growth, and career advancement. The goal is to help attendees become better professionals, better leaders, and stronger contributors to their organizations.
When women grow, companies grow. When companies grow, industries grow. Everyone benefits.
If there’s one word that best describes Women Build It, it’s community. The conference, Momentum Series events, networking opportunities, mentorship conversations, and Woman of the Year Award all stem from the same idea: women are stronger when they have people in their corner. People who understand their challenges. People who celebrate their wins. People who offer guidance when needed. People who create opportunities for others.
That’s not about empowerment for empowerment’s sake. It’s about relationships. It’s about support. It’s about helping women navigate their careers and contribute at the highest level possible.
As Women Build It continues to grow, the mission remains the same as it was on day one: to connect women across construction, design, architecture, and the trades through meaningful conversations, professional development, mentorship, and community. Not because women are better than men. Not because women need to compete with men. But because every industry benefits when talented people have opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and lead.
That’s what Women Build It is really about. And that’s why it continues to resonate with so many women across Central Indiana.
